Home remedies for toenail fungus:
Vinegar

Name: Vinegar
Treatment Form: bathe feet in diluted solution

What is Vinegar?

Vinegar is an acidic liquid that is created when ethanol in fermented fruit juices, wine, cider or similar liquids is oxidized. It is frequently used to add flavor to food. Any type of vinegar can be used to treat toenail fungus, but some people believe that apple cider vinegar is best.

Dosage and Administration of Vinegar

The usual method for treating toenail fungus with vinegar is to bathe the feet in a solution of one part vinegar to two parts warm water. After soaking the feet in this solution for between 15 and 20 minutes, the feet should be rinsed and then dried thoroughly. This should be done at least once a day until the fungus is cured. Like any topical treatment, consistent application over a long period (at least 3-4 months) is required.

Vinegar is often used as a home remedy to cure toenail fungus

Vinegar can also be applied directly to the toenail, although this may not be as effective since the vinegar will usually run off the nail and will not penetrate the nail plate. Bathing the feet in a vinegar solution allows a longer time for the vinegar to soak into the toenail.

How Does Vinegar Work on Toenail Fungus?

Although not proven scientifically, it is assumed that vinegar works by restoring the normal PH of the skin and toenail. Toenail fungi prefer alkaline conditions and when they attack, they create conditions in which they can flourish by turning the PH alkaline. Vinegar makes the PH more acidic, which stops the fungus growing and eventually kills it.

Is Vinegar Effective Against Toenail Fungus?

Vinegar is one of the most commonly used and ancient home remedies for toenail fungus, which suggests that it is effective. There is considerable anectdotal evidence on the internet that supports the claim that vinegar is an effective cure for onychomycosis. However, we are aware of no clinical studies that have been undertaken to establish the effectiveness of vinegar on toenail fungus by applying scientific mnethods.

The acidity of vinegar is also reputed to help to relieve the itching caused by a toenail fungus.

Warnings and Precautions When Taking Vinegar

Vinegar is safe to use. It is non-toxic and it is a food product.

Side-Effects of Vinegar

There are no serious side-effects of using vinegar as a topical or soaking solution for toenail fungus, but it can leave a pungent smell. Rinsing the feet thoroughly after using vinegar can help to reduce the odor. Apple cider vinegar has a more pleasant aroma than other types of vinegar, which perhaps is why it is often specifically recommended for use in the vinegar home remedy for toenail fungus.
